Originating from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and now based in Lafayette, Colorado, Spices Peculiar is the brainchild of avant-garde musician Dante Villagomez. At the heart of Dante's sound is his illusory mastery of percussion instruments, synths, and looping techniques, which he uses to create hypnotic and immersive soundscapes. Drawing on influences from a wide range of musical styles, Dante's music defies categorization, combining elements of electronic, jazz, and world music into a truly organic sound. His compositions are designed to take listeners on a journey of introspection and self-discovery, using the power of sound to create a meditative and transformative experience.
Dante Villagomez has been manifesting independently produced albums since 2015, focusing on creating immersive soundscapes that take listeners on a transformative meditation journey. Drawing on his travels and personal experiences, Dante's albums feature a blend of his unique looping electronica improv, world percussion instruments, and his homegrown production style. With a focus on thematic albums, Dante's music is an invitation to explore the depths of the mind and embark on a sonic voyage of self-discovery.
Spices Peculiar launched the Night at Sea Podcast in 2018, with the goal of guiding listeners on a sound journey towards a meditative state. With each episode recorded live, the podcast features avant-garde improvisational jams by Pittsburgh and Denver-based musicians and visual artists. As listeners float through the hypnotic soundscape, they are transported to a world of inner peace and reflection. Through the power of sound, we invite you to explore your innermost thoughts and emotions, and to connect with the vastness of the ocean.

Pittsburgh Magazine: “Each [Night at Sea] episode is beginning-to-end music, presented without comment — and designed, Villagomez says, to provide some peaceful listening, perhaps for those looking for a bit of music as they drift off to sleep.”
The Slow Music Movement Blog: “There seems to be some unmapped, dissecting laylines in Denver on which Dante Villagomez has based his studio. Here he plugs into subterranean ambient frequencies few can access, on which he scatters ancient instrumentation that evokes times when nature was worshipped…”
Grotesqualizer Blog: “This mystic ambient is a true sonic entheogen, which can be compared in effect to Tibetan ritual music. With its sound vibrations, Spices Peculiar seems to create slits in reality, releasing and contacting with something incomprehensible”
Electronica UK Blog: “[The World is a Button] exudes an organic vibe, with a rich tapestry of sounds from actual instruments and percussion. Melodic fragments and loops gracefully weave their way through the mix, while percussive elements take charge of the rhythm, gradually building in intensity before gently subsiding. It’s a meditative, entrancing, and thoroughly enjoyable listening experience.”
Acid Ted Blog: “Something set in a meditative genre that holds your attention and engages your senses. A piece of ambient strangeness in a podcast for you to enjoy… and a sense of being swept along a bit out of place. And yet somehow a warming reassuring track. Lovely awkwardness.”
